The original name of the town was Corners. The settlement was characterized by several crossroads, a school that served as an educational center, and a community house. John Alyea, an 1844 entrepreneur, laid out three lots of one-acre each. One lot was used for blacksmithing, while the two remaining lots were sold to Mr. Palmer. The Rev. was Hebron's first postmaster. Blain served as postmaster for two years.
Andrew Carnegie was a resident of the town. He donated $250,000 between 1883 and 1919 to build libraries all over the world. The $10,000 public grant that was given to Hebron helped build the Hebron library. Many people contributed their funds to the building over the next decades. It now houses the Hebron Public Library. It houses a library, community center, as well as an art gallery.
The 1970 Hebron basketball team won both the PCC tourney as well as the South County tourney. It also featured many players who set career and single-season scoring records. Damon Wallace and Cody Artuso set career steal and single-season records, as well as career blocking shots records. The team also won the PCC sectional tournaments in 1973 and 1974, and the sectional tournaments in 1976.

Stoney Run County Park covers 316 acres of oakhickory forests, ponds and ravines. You can enjoy a picnic at the water's edge, take a hayride tour, or hike or ski eight miles of trails. Horseback riding is allowed on the park's perimeter trail. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the park honors U.S. citizens and 261 Lake County servicemen who lost their lives during the conflict.

Grand Kankakee Marsh Co Park allows pets. This natural habitat is home to deer herds, ducks, and other wildlife. There are many nature trails that can be explored. The electric power is available in this pavilion at Spencer Park. Spencer Park is a popular park for family reunions, church gatherings, and graduation parties. The new hiking challenge, the Diana Dunes Dare, is offered by Indiana Dunes National Park. The dare is located at West Beach on the National Park's Dune Succession Trail. It tells the story Alice Mabel Gray, also known as "Diana the Dunes", in regional folklore.
